Master’s Degree Graduation
It’s been only a year and I already have my master’s degree! Thursday, I received my Master of Music in Jazz Pedagogy from the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami. I spent the day surrounded by friends and family, and I couldn’t have asked for anything better.
It’s hard to sum up this past year in a few sentences because it truly transformed me. I’ve had the immense pleasure of performing with the Frost Jazz Orchestra, Frost Funk/Fusion Ensemble, Frost R&B Ensemble, and my own band. I recorded an album, participated in several recording projects and gigs, and embarked on several social media management adventures. I’ve grown as a writer, teacher, photographer, and as a person overall. Within and outside of music, I have been able to spend my days doing what I love with amazing people, and there is nothing greater than that. There are so many amazing individuals at Frost I owe thanks to, because it’s the community here that have made my year as a graduate student much, much more than simply being at school.
Additionally, I just released a new album! “Celebration” is the perfect way for me to commemorate this moment, as I got to collaborate with over 20 friends and colleagues here at the Frost School of Music. The album includes original music I composed during my graduate studies, arrangements of some of my favorite songs, and 2 big band compositions brought to life by some of the best around.
Thank you for everything, Frost School of Music. I’m so grateful to spend 3 more years here for my D.M.A.!
